Direct3D11 DXVA behavior issues on some Atom chipsets; audio/video synchronization lost in decoding

$

In a a Windows Store App that our company is developing, we have countered a problem whereby if the user repeatedly adjusts the layout during playback of mpeg2 content, the synchronization between audio and video is lost. This lip-sync error persists even if the layout subsequently remains static. This problem is occurring on two devices, one with the Atom Z3735F chipset and the other with the Atom Z3795 chipset.

When AVC content is played back, if a lip sync error develops, frames are dropped and synchronization between audio and video is stored. Proceeding with an investigation based on the assumption that our MPEG2 decoder must adjust based on the current playback quality, we have discovered the following things.

1. Investigation into conditions of sync loss occurrence

We deliberately delayed the clock to determine the conditions under which sync was lost.

(Results)

* If the video frame's PTS is delayed, the sync loss could be reproduced.

If the PTS is delayed by 1s during playback, lip sync is lost and is not subsequently restored. Introducing a several second delay on the output of the decoder also reproduced the loss of sync. Finally, the problem was not reproduced using DirectX9 on a Desktop version, but it did occur with DirectX11.

2. Investigation into what's causing the delay

Logging clock times, we established what was consuming time when sync was lost.

(Results)

A) Sample requests from the renderer are late

At first, ProcessOutput is called with an interval of 2-3ms to try to catch up. Slowly, the interval increases and even though the video still lags, the final interval is in the range of 30-40ms. For normal and correct playback, the request interval should be 33-34ms for the frame rate. Under normal playback, if synchronization slips, requests should come at intervals of 2-3ms until synchronization is restored.

B) A Direct3D11 DXVA interface that is used internally by the decoder can take 31ms to complete

When requests from the renderer begin to arrive late, ID3D11VideoContext::DecoderBeginFrame, which is called to move processing from the renderer to the decoder, takes as long as 31ms to complete. Ordinarily this call completes inside of one millisecond.

3. Workarounds in the Decoder

When DecoderBeginFrame() takes a long time to return, try reducing workload until sync is restored

(Results)

A) Drop a frame in the decoder

If DecoderBeginFrame() takes more than 10ms, do not decode the current frame and do not pass data to the renderer. DecoderBeginFrame() subsequently does not take a long time, and lip sync is restored.

B) Deactivate deinterlace processing

If DecoderBeginFrame() takes more than 10ms, set the de-interlace flag to false for one frame before passing the data to the renderer. DecoderBeginFrame() subsequently does not take a long time, and lip sync is restored.

4) In summary...

A) Even when the video is lagging, the interval between requests for ProcessOutput increase. At first, when video is lagging and sync is lost between audio and video, multiple immediate requests for data are received by the decoder, but before synchronization can be restored, the request interval increases. We expect that the DXVA acceleration is used not just by the decoder, but also by the renderer, and hope that Intel can explain to us the driver mechanism that leads to the above behavior.

B) DecoderBeginFrame() takes approximately 30ms.  When (A) occurs, DecoderBeginFrame() takes approximately 30ms. What internal mechanism is causing this delay?

C) May we have documentation related to the above?

D) Would it be possible for you to explain the mechanism which allows the Workaround (3) to address issues (1) and (2)? Additionally, please instruct how we can restore audio video synchronization without the workarounds of (3)?

A picture says it all. Notice the pixels and tearing on the down right side. Any one can guide to a solution to avoid the problems except "avoid overloading to 100% capacity" ?

Thanks so much !

Compatibility between Intel InTru 3D technology and NVidia 3D Vision

I have processor i3-3220 with intel graphics hd 2500 (intel intru 3d included).
Right now i’m going to buy 27'' monitor, which are supported by NVidia 3D Vision.
Besides that i want to buy NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 Wireless Glasses Kit.

And the question is: With all this items will it be possible to organize 3D playback?

Because unfortunately I didn't see much information about Intel InTru 3D...

If it will not be enough and i will have to buy NVidia GPU, could you recommend what monitor and glasses I have to buy in order to watch
3D using Intel InTru 3D?

HD Graphics 4600 screen flickering error

$

Hello,

since the old thread disappeared rather quickly, I will open a new one here.

I have horizontal lines occasionally popping up as soon as something is moving on screen.

It's not really a flickering, they just appear for 1 or 2 seconds and then disappear.

I am not able to make an actual screenshot of it, because it seems the error does only show on screen.

I manipulated a screenshot to show how it looks like:

error.jpg

This can happen inside a video window, but it doesn't happen when it is playing, but when it is paused and the overlay of the player pops up,

then a black or sometimes white line (1 or 2 pixels wide) pops up, as long as the overlay is shown.

This happens in many different applications, Photoshop, Firefox, VLC Player, ACDSee or the Windows Explorer.

Sometimes its only on a picture on a website or a drop-down menu in some program.

Only games seem to be immune to this, I tried a few which did not show any error.

The thing is, I had this on 2 quite different notebooks.

On an MSI-CR61 with a Pentium 3550M + HD Graphics, and now on a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E540 with a Core i5 + HD Graphics 4600.

Both running on a fully patched Windows 7 x64 SP1 + latest drivers.

I tried out a Linux Boot CD on both systems, on both machines the error is not present under Linux.

Only under Windows 7 x64 SP1. Which makes me think that it's not a faulty screen

I connected the notebook to an external monitor via HDMI, and I am not able to reproduce the error on that.

On the MSI-Notebook I tried the following versions of the Intel Driver: v.15.36.7.64.3960 and v.15.36.3.64.3907

and the one before that, but I can't find out the exact version now.

On the Lenovo Thinkpad I only tried the latest v.15.36.7.64.3960.

Any ideas?

Greetings,

Daniel

high cpu usage after latest graphics driver update (nov 2014)

Hi,

I am running an ASUS laptop with Windows 7 and I also see high CPU usage by "igfxEM.exe", one instance for each opened user session, exactly since the Intel driver update.

Each instance is using a CPU thread at full speed (12,5% of total CPU on my Intel i7). See attached screenshot with driver version number and CPU usage display.

I believe this is the same issue that has actually not been solved : https://communities.intel.com/message/257256#257256

Thanks,

Grégory

Popup message box in VB6 with Intel® Iris™ and HD Graphics random not show Windows 8/8.1

Hi,

Have a issue in our old Visual Basic 6 program.

When a Message box should popup in the program it not displayed ( like it's hidden but is there)

Sometime it show but most time it not show ( 1 of 5 times it not show the popup box)

With AMD or Nvidia it allways work.

Have tested a couple of Intel Graphics HD modell

It's only the latest Intel Gen.4 that this happen.

If I change to Microsoft Standard driver it work.

Know this is old, but dose anyone have a clue what can couse this only on Intel HD Gen4 graphics like Iris ?

Computer tested on has

Intel i7- 4500U - 4400HD

Intel i5-4200M - 4600HD

"Lack of updated graphics drivers" - but latest installed

$

I recently upgraded my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop from Vista to Win 7. Minecraft worked before upgrading it. I've re-installed Minecraft, but when I try and run it I get a "Lack of updated graphics drivers" message.

However, when I run the Intel Device Driver update, it comes up blank - suggesting there's nothing that needs upgrading. When I open Device Manager\Display adapters and click on "Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset Family" (the only entry there) and click on "Update Driver" it also tells me I've got the latest version installed.

Any suggestions?

Michael

Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 after update graphic, black screen on my Intel Nuc DN2820FYKH, monitor acer G245HQ, but only on Windows 7 Works

Best Intel,

I have a problem of update:

Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Intel NUC 10.18.10.3621 (Latest)

When I install Windows 7 64bit on my DN2820FYKH and update this Graphics software just works normally and shows resolution to 1920 x 1080.

But if I install Windows 8.1 64 bit graphics software update after I get black screen on my monitor screen. also restart does not work ...

Also, Windows 10 I have given windows microsoft feedback, but no screen after update of graphics software from DN2820FYKH.

I also installs latest chipset version. But I think the monitor is G245HQ driver problem. so hopefully that intel graphics software is an update or fix it. It is unfortunate that only Windows 7 64bit does work.

Thanks You if reply.

Acer Switch 10, scale to full screen in dual display with HDMI

Hello:

I have recently buyed an Aspire Switch 10, which uses an Intel Atom processor and Intel HD graphics. I have connected the system to a TV through HDMI and I want to duplicate the image both on the PC and on the TV. However, the problem that I have is that the TV shows huge black borders. This is because I cannot set the TV to scale the image to full screen. I have updated the drivers of the graphics adaptor and I still have the same problem. In the Intel Control Panel, the only option for the TV is to center the image.

HDMI.jpg

It’s very annoying, since I have another cheaper devices which can scale the image through HDMI without problems.

Can you give me any solution?

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

HD Driver setup language

$

I run w7 HP x64 enUS but I am located in Sweden therefore must have some local swedish settings, like the keyboard, a default non-unicode language etc.

I have English as default screen and system language, and I want all programs and drivers to have English interface.

And I manage all programs in English eccept for the Intel HD Graphics driver.

Even though I run fully manual setup and force the damn thing to be installed in English, like that:

"setup -b -overwrite -nowinsat -l 0409"

I still get parts of the menu in Swedish, and parts of the menu in English and it tells me in System Information that my Default Language is Swedish.

??????

How difficult could it be to let the user to decide which language he or she wants to run the application???? Why the things need to be automatically wrong these days?

Besides, the description of the installation switches is faulty. The switch "-l0409" (according to the description) won't be accepted, but "-l 0409" would run OK.

I am deeply disapointed in this product (Intel HD Graphics 4000). Also, I can't get it running with a primary screen on HDMI output, but it is a different story for a different thread.

Intel hd graphics causes laptop display to black out

$

Hi,

I just fixed a rather cheap Medion laptop that had a corrupted hard drive and I loaded windows 8.1 onto it and installing the intel hd 3000 graphics driver is an absolute nightmare!

the cpu in this computer is a intel core i3 2350m which supposedly has intel hd graphics 3000 built in

the gpu in this computer is a geforce 630m (the drivers work fine for this one but it won't work if the intel hd graphics are not installed :/)

And now for the problem;

EVERY time I install the intel hd graphics driver on the laptop the internal laptop screen turns off instantly and only outputs to vga/hdmi you name it! In safe mode however, the display works fine (installing the driver in safe mode makes the screen black out as well) The display works just fine when booting but after the boot logo, the screen is blank (backlight on) and if I plug in a external monitor I can see the desktop on the external monitor. Also if I disable the hd graphics in device manager the display works on the next reboot but the resolution is crappy. I've tried the official medion drivers but that says that the machine doesn't meet the minimum requirements.

can anyone help me?

thanks,

Hi,

I have a new HP with an i5 and HD4600 graphics. The displayport does not appear to be working. I currently have one monitor (Dell P2213) using VGA, however I have a second and I want to use display port on both.

When I plug in the second display with DP, the first screen just goes black. The mouse is there and can move it but it can't do anything. Keyboard is still responsive, but I can't see what I am doing. When I remove the cable and return to the first display, the windows have been resized.

I've updated to the latest drivers through the Intel Update manager. Still not working.

Please help.
